TurtleStatus is an early-warning screening tool for assessing whether monitored replacement stages appear sufficient to offset the adult losses expected from a species’ life history. It combines observed stage ratios, trends through time, data quality and uncertainty to help identify potential recruitment problems before changes in adult abundance become obvious.

Important note on interpreting replacement status:
Evaluating the success of a cohort in replacing itself is not the same as standard population viability analysis. Replacement assessment tells you if the current adult generation has successfully produced enough surviving offspring to take their place in the population. A population that is not currently replacing itself may still be large, but it faces slow, long-term decline if conditions do not improve. This tool gives you the evidence to act before that decline becomes critical.
